When divorce is inevitable, making the right financial decisions is critical. However, lack of financial knowledge frequently drives people to agree to a divorce settlement they may not fully understand or may regret in the future. Once a divorce settlement has been signed, it is very difficult to change it. (Believe me, I earned the T-Shirt a decade ago.)
We help clients understand the long-term effects of their divorce settlement. Decisions made during a divorce are often the result of legal negotiations that take place at a time when emotions are at an all-time high. One of the most difficult things to deal with when going through a divorce is separating these emotions from the task at hand.
Divorce solution services surround three phases of a divorce;
before, during, and after.
Services are hourly based upon the type of service being provided. When we discuss the particulars of your case, I can give a better estimate regarding the fee schedule. The most expensive service (because it's very time intensive) is finding missing assets beyond uncovering the missing links between financial documents you provide. Your dollars are very valuable to you and I will not recommend that level of investigative service this unless you have very plausible suspicions. I will give you fair and square information for your financial decisions, and I only bill fair and square for time spent.
**Note for attorney's, I can testify as an expert witness
on the financial analysis of assets**
Services are provided in either an hourly rate, a VIP package, or a retainer based arrangement. Each client is unique and we will tailor the service to meet your needs. Contact me to discuss the specifics and I will let you know your options so you can decide what is fair and square for you.
"Before the Divorce…."
This is the time when clients aren't sure they want to divorce but they are sure they need to gather more financial information. We help walk through the preliminary questions they have to help them make better decisions. Anyone who is even contemplating a divorce should get their questions answered and avoid false assumptions down the road.
"During the Divorce Process…."
It's emotionally draining thinking about all the life changes happening all at once and thinking clearly about the long term impacts may not be your first priority. You might try to be nice only to find out later you were being taken advantage of. You might hear them say oh this is worth $10,000 and that is worth $10,000, so I will take this one and you take that one, without recognition of liquidity, growth, or tax consequences. This happened with a client, her $10,000 was tied up in a bond, wasn't liquid for five years and would only gain 2%, while the other item was in a mutual fund averaging 8% growth annually. There are two very different long term impacts and we can help you evaluate and substantiate this information for attorneys and the courts to help you gain what is fair.
Your attorney is highly skilled in the legal aspects of your divorce, but they usually are not submerged in the intricate financial details that involve tax issues, IRS rulings, dividing pensions, social security options for your future, or insurance options. We bring the financial expertise and insight necessary to help you, and your Attorney, understand all of the options to create options for settlement solutions and I shed light on the short and long term impacts of your case.
At Divorce Financial Solutions, you are provided with powerful case exhibits in the form of spreadsheets, graphs and personal financial analysis to show various financial outcomes. We will assist you throughout your divorce case and address your following concerns regarding:
- How will I survive financially?
- What does it mean if I accept this settlement?
- Can I afford the house? Should I sell the house?
- What about our retirement accounts?
- What tax liabilities will I be incurring?
- How much support will I receive?
- Will I have to go back to work?
- How will this affect my retirement?
- Are there any hidden assets?
